Ultrasonic testing with UD4-76 flaw detector.
Acceptance testing and welds testing using UD4-76 ultrasonic flaw detector at “DZBO” Ltd. Advantages of work with this instrument are described.

In a period of 5 years the “DZBO” Ltd. (General Manager Ostrovskij I.R.) successfully works and domains among Ukraine enterprises, which work in drilling equipment production.
The main requirement to “Quality control system” on the enterprise is the quality level guarantee.
The company management decided to purchase the ultrasonic flaw detector UD4-76, produced by SPC “Promprilad”, Kiev.
Working with flaw detector UD4-76 made it possible to reduce testing preparation time and the welds testing; it significantly eased the work of the defectoscopist. For example, it is enough for semiautomatic calibration of straight beam probes on random piece to assign the thickness of a piece, gating it with special measuring strobes, to assign the first and the second bottom echoes and then initialize the measurement. The result of the measurement is the ultrasonic speed values in the piece and delay value in probe prism. The received parameters can be saved as current or the measurements can be repeated.
The gauge choice for angle beam probe is considerably bigger. There is a possibility to calibrate the delay value in prism by CO-3, probe angle – by CO-2, and the speed – by any reflector in testing object, for instance by signal from the butt (end).
Using a special software “Ultra UDx-7x” the operator has the possibility to send the results through a build-in USB port to the “B-scan” and “A-scan” PC in order to create data and results reports.
All programs settings can be uploaded by the user from the PC to the flaw detector if necessary. It reduces the time for flaw detector testing preparation. “Ultra UDx-7x” allows to carry out the additional analysis of results, notably:
Measurement of detected defects parameters by B-scans (Coordinates, conventional and equivalent sizes, amplitude etc.) allows to draw conclusions about their risk level.
A big and high-contrast display in combination with considered colored schemes lets the defectoscopist take in a lot of information. The most important results can be displayed (to 5 defect parameters). For example:
• Defect depth;
• Ray-path distance;
• Defect amplitude;
• Threshold signal level exceeding;
• Equivalent defect area;
All these settings significantly ease the work of defectoscopist so far as he is able to set the installation for displaying only needed parameters.
Thereby, UD4-76 flaw detector has considerably eased and speeded the inspection of nonstandard parts and established a good reputation for welds testing.
